On 23rd October 2025, members of SLAAI, Dr. Buditha Hettige , Dr. Anuradha Ariyaratne, and Dr. Kalani Ilmini, conducted an engaging workshop titled “From Wheels to Thinking Machines: The Story of AI” at President’s College, Maharagama for Advanced Level students.
The session introduced students to the fascinating evolution of Artificial Intelligence – from simple mechanical inventions to today’s intelligent systems. Through interactive discussions and visual demonstrations, we explored how AI goes beyond prediction to solve real-world optimization problems, drawing inspiration from nature’s own problem-solving strategies such as the behavior of ants, birds, and genes.
The workshop also showcased the difference between predictive and generative AI, encouraging students to view AI not as a replacement for human creativity but as a partner in building a better, more ethical future.
